Teuchters Landing bar in Leith has won two awards in just a few months. The bar attracted the accolade of the ‘best outdoor area’ at the recent SLTN awards and also the ‘best drinks offering’ at The Dram’s 2024 awards.
The bar has a number of outdoor areas, including, unusually, a pontoon – and a few years ago it also renovated a nearby 19th century bridge, which created space for another 60 customers, as well as providing a public walkway. Its award-winning drinks offering includes 22 beers on tap, predominantly from local producers; 250 malt whiskies; and lonkero (gin and grapefruit) on draught, served in a pint glass, with ice, to name a few of the thirst quenchers on the menu.
Winter is no impediment to enjoying a dram, beer or other favourite tipple outdoors at Teuchters Landing. Owner and director, John Tindal says: “We have loads of blankets and heaters outside and hot toddies, mulled wine and mulled cider available. Indoors, we have loads of nooks and crannies, and fires on, keeping everyone cosy.”
Customers’ current food favourites include ‘winter warmers’ such as mugs of haggis stovies; scallop and kedgeree risotto; and venison bourguignon. The focus is on local suppliers – veggie burgers are supplied by FacePlant Foods of Leith, as one example.
Reflecting on reasons for the success of the bar, Tindal says: “I don’t think there’s anywhere quite like it in Scotland.”
