Scottish drinks brand scores new deal with world curling champions
A team of Scottish curling stars have signed a new sponsorship deal with the country’s only Scotch-whisky-cream-liqueur brand, Magnum, after winning their second world title at the men’s championships in Canada earlier this month. Team Mouat are now Magnum’s official ambassadors for 2025.
Led by Edinburgh-born skipper, Bruce Mouat, the team of four men from Edinburgh, Stranraer and Dumfries is now sweeping into action for a range of promotional activities, special guest appearances and tasting events across Scotland and in Canada.
Magnum, which is made and bottled at a production centre in Fife, will also be sponsoring Team Mouat’s official match kit this year, which they’ll be wearing at the grand slam of curling events in Canada and America, as well as others across Europe.
Team Mouat has continued its winning streak at the recent Players’ Championship Grand Slam in Canada, with its fourth slam win of the season and 10th win overall. This is the first and only time this has ever been achieved on the circuit in a single season.
Commenting on the new sponsorship deal with Magnum, Team Mouat skipper, Bruce Mouat, said:
“We can’t wait to hit the road with Magnum as part of its new campaign for 2025. Magnum is a great Scottish brand, but one of its biggest export markets is Canada, so it’s the perfect fit for us after our latest world-championship win there.”
He added: “As well as promoting Magnum this year, we’ll be helping to raise the profile of curling and encouraging people to give it a go for themselves.”
Launched in Canada in 2018, Magnum is now available in over 500 outlets across the country, including the seven provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
Edinburgh-based Hemisphere Brands is the global brand agent for Magnum and manages the brand from production planning through to the strategy for market entry, as well as executing the sales, marketing and global distribution plan.
Lee Schofield, director for Magnum, said:
“We’re extremely proud to be supporting Team Mouat as our nation’s curling world champions. We think they’re the perfect ambassadors to represent the Magnum brand and curling on the world stage.
“Scotland and Canada share a passion for curling, single-malt Scotch whisky and cream liqueurs, as well as Canadian-Scots heritage, so we jumped at the chance to bring these two great nations closer together following Team Mouat’s latest success in Canada.”
Lee added: “With our new, dedicated, global-production centre right here in Scotland, engineered solely for Magnum, we’re able to scale up as required. Our strategy is to continue growing the Magnum brand globally in significant ‘cream’ liqueur markets, including the UK, Canada, the US and South Africa.
“With ongoing support from our national agency-representative partner in Canada, we have our sights set on driving Magnum’s availability and volume throughout the country this year. We’re hoping to ship around 30,000 litres of Magnum from Scotland to Canada.”
Magnum, a fusion of single-malt Scotch whisky and cream, is contained in a stainless- steel flask, which is designed to be reusable and recyclable. It also keeps the liqueur chilled at the optimum temperature, without the need for ice.
