The Balmoral Hotel and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation are launching a fundraising partnership, starting with a Burns Night celebration, at the hotel, on Friday 24 January, from 6.45pm till midnight.
The foundation was established by the late, former Scotland International rugby player, Doddie Weir, following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND). Its aims are to raise funds to aid research and support people suffering from the disease.
The evening will begin with a champagne reception, then a piper will welcome guests into the Balmoral’s Sir Walter Scott Suite. A traditional Burns supper will follow, along with a dram of Macallan malt whisky to finish. Next, there’s an auction with donated prizes, including a four-night golfing holiday at Verdura, a Rocco Forte resort in Sicily. All proceeds go direct to the charity. The event then continues with a ceilidh.
Stephen Walker, director of sales and marketing at The Balmoral, commented: “We’re proud to support My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to fund vital research, and the funds raised through this inaugural event, and many more to come, will help as we continue on this road to a world free of MND.”
Paul Thompson, director of fundraising at My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, said: “This is the start of a special partnership between two famous Scottish names, and we thank the Balmoral for its support, which will help us as we work towards identifying effective treatments and one day, a cure for MND.”
Ticket sales have raised more than £5000 to date.
