Apex Roofing Contracts invests in future talent, with trainee surveyor appointment

Edinburgh-based, family-owned roofing contractor, Apex Roofing Contracts, is strengthening its commitment to developing the next generation of construction professionals, with the appointment of its new trainee surveyor, 22-year-old Ollie O’Neill.

As the company continues to expand, to support a growing number of customers and projects across Edinburgh and beyond, Apex Roofing Contracts recognises the importance of attracting and nurturing young talent to help shape the future of the business.

Ollie, who is from Buckstone, joins as a junior surveyor, working closely with the company’s senior surveyors to undertake site inspections and roofing surveys across the city. Splitting his time between site work and office-based project management, he is gaining valuable hands-on experience while developing his skills through on-the-job training.

Ollie left school at 16 with the ambition of building a career in construction management. He initially started a pre-apprenticeship in joinery, but a serious bike accident forced him to put his studies on hold for nearly a year.

On returning to work, he gained experience in borehole drilling and later spent time in the finance sector, but his passion for construction never faded. When the opportunity to join Apex Roofing Contracts arose, he knew it was the perfect chance to get back on track. 

Ollie said: “This is exactly the opportunity I was looking for. I’ve always had a strong interest in surveying and construction management, and Apex Roofing Contracts has given me the chance to develop my career in a hands-on role.

“I love the balance between being out on site, seeing projects take shape, and working in the office to understand how everything comes together behind the scenes. The experience I’m gaining is invaluable, and I’m excited to be part of a growing business that’s investing in its future.”
